PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Coachella is known as one of the most beloved and largest, live music events in the United States. Their site was in need of a major refresh and restructuring to support the millions of users that come to learn about the event and purchase tickets and lodging for the event. The site was no longer user friendly because of years of unstructured content and they looked to me to help create a new structure based on users’ needs and priorities.

THE PROCESS

I conducted hands-on user testing with 22 University of California, Davis students in the target demographic for the event. We tested working prototypes to understand the most important information to users and to see where they were having difficulty as they navigated the site. Testing revealed that although the users were familiar with the event, they did not know the context of the event, what they should know before attending or how to navigate the site to find important information. This led to a total restructure of the site with a UI that focused on guides and categories that would lead the user through the steps needed to have a successful and enjoyable time at the event. The structure could be reordered at any time, depending on what was the most important information in that moment.

THE SOLUTION

The event sold out in three hours and there were 2 millions visits in first 48 hours. Not only was the site beautiful, but users were able to navigate the site and successfully find the needed information very quickly.
